VANCOUVER -- The good times kept rolling Monday for Camilo and the rest of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Camilo was named to the MLS All-Star team that will meet Italys AS Roma on July 31 in Kansas City. The 24-year-old Brazilian striker earned his first MLS all-star game selection. Peter Vermes, the MLS all-star squads coach, chose Camilo, who struggled to get into Vancouvers lineup earlier this season, among players who rounded out the roster after fan voting. Camilo refused to take sole credit for his selection. "Its very important, but not just for me," said Camilo after a practice at the University of British Columbia on Monday. "It just means the club is playing very well. The team is playing good soccer, and its very important." Camilo, who is in his third season with the Whitecaps and leads the league in scoring with 12 goals, was also named MLS player of the week for the second time this season. The honours came a day after he scored two goals in Vancouvers 3-1 victory over the Chicago Fire. He has scored nine goals in his past seven games and helped the Whitecaps move from also-ran status into third place in the Western Conference. The Whitecaps are also the only MLS club that is unbeaten at home, sporting a 7-0-3 mark at B.C. Place Stadium. Camilo said he has been able to shine because the Whitecaps have placed more emphasis on the attack in recent weeks. "Thats why we score a lot of goals, because we are more free, we attack more (and) we have more chances," he said. Vancouver players have earned player-of-the-week honours in four of the past five weeks. Coach Martin Rennie said Camilo is just one of many Whitecaps who are excelling these days. "Weve got a lot of players in good form," said Rennie. "But, certainly, Camilos in great goal-scoring form at the moment." Rennie attributed Camilos success to better fitness after he was hampered by a thigh injury much of last season, a more defined role, and opportunities to play with fellow striker Kenny Miller upon his return from injury. "(Camilo) has rewarded us all with his performances and his goals," said Rennie. "When players are scoring (consistently), that makes such a difference to the team." Camilo has now surpassed the career-high 10 goals he scored as a rookie in 2011 and the seven markers he produced in 2012. Goalkeeper Brad Knighton called Camilos all-star game selection "fantastic, not only for him but for the club." He suggested Camilo would have received a major snub if he had not been chosen. "The leading goal-scorer in the league, obviously, he deserves to be there. ... Hes been tremendous for us," said Knighton. "Hes been a huge catalyst to where we are right now." Meanwhile, Knighton apologized to teammates and fans for angrily leaving the pitch quickly Sunday after the Whitecaps surrendered a goal in the dying seconds of their win over Chicago. "Its frustrating for me, because you obviously want clean sheets, but wins are more important than clean sheets," said Knighton. "I want to apologize to our guys for storming off and leaving them on the field, and apologize to our fans because, obviously, we have a reputation. Our fans are our biggest supporters, and our organization is trying to be one of the best in the world, and to have stuff like that going on, its not good." Knighton vowed that such antics would never happen again. Rennie said it was good for him to take responsibility for his actions, but understood his frustration, adding no goalkeeper should be happy allowing a goal. Heading into next Saturdays game in Los Angeles, the Whitecaps are 7-0-3 in their past 10 games. Some players will spend this week attempting to get back in the lineup as they battle health woes. Midfielder Russell Teibert, who was forced to return early from international duty with Canadas Gold Cup squad early after coming down with an illness, took part in Mondays practice, which was optional for players who toiled against Chicago. Teibert went to hospital for tests, but did not stay over night, while with the Canadian team in Seattle. The 20-year-old Niagara Falls, Ont., native was sniffling after the workout with the Caps, but expected to be able to play against the Galaxy. "Im still a little bit sick, obviously, but I turned the corner," said Teibert. "Im getting better day by day." Note--Rennie said he hopes injured central defender Andy OBrien (hamstring) can resume full training this week. The coach did not rule him out of the game against the Galaxy. OBrien went through rehabilitation on the pitch Monday. ... Miller and Knighton were the other Whitecaps who have taken home MLS player of the week awards. Wholesale Heat Jerseys. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The game was supposed to be about the national anthem that wasnt played. Thursdays friendly against Thailand will be the first public look at the U.S. womens national team since its exit in the quarterfinals of the Olympics, a tournament that ended not with The Star-Spangled Banner but with the Germans standing as their anthem played at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.Instead it is about the national anthem that will be played at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus. It is about what Megan Rapinoe will do. And about what she should do, in this setting in particular. It sounded Wednesday like that isnt quite what anyone wants. Perhaps even including Rapinoe.Nearly three weeks have passed since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernicks protests, first sitting on the bench during the national anthem and more recently kneeling on the sideline, initially came to national attention. Nearly two weeks have passed since Rapinoe did the same in solidarity, kneeling during the national anthem as a member of the Seattle Reign of the National Womens Soccer League. Numerous NFL players kneeled during anthems this past weekend, even amidst the remembrances of the 15th anniversary of 9/11.But if the story is no longer new, what might transpire Thursday night is new. To date, those protests were done while representing professional teams. Doing so while representing the country would call back to American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos standing on the medal podium with fists raised in protest during the 1968 Olympics. The anthems place at professional sporting events is nebulous to begin with.It is inseparable from international sporting events.U.S. coach Jill Ellis, while supportive of Rapinoes intent, left little doubt about her perspective. (Ellis said Wednesday afternoon the two had not spoken about the anthem and any possible protest specifically but would chat later that evening.)I totally understand where Megan is, in terms of her willingness to talk about hard social issues, Ellis said. I respect that. I support that. Those conversations should be had. Me personally, in this environment for a national team, I dont disassociate playing for your country. I think thats a part of a national symbol. So in terms of standing for a national anthem, I think thats an expectation of a national team player. In an interview earlier Wednesday with ESPNs Jeremy Schaap, Rapinoe said she had not decided what she would do during the anthem. She indicated that was still the case when she spoke with media Wednesday afternoon before the teams training session. She also sounded like someone who, while unshaken in her belief, was frustrated that so much of the talk surrounding the protest centered on what she is doing instead of why she is doing it.Asked if she had found some of the productive conversations she hoped to spark, she mentioned talking to people in her life and activists in the movement. She didnt say anything about conversations with people who might disagree with her or be made uncomfortable. To be honest, not as many [meaningful conversations] as I would want, or not as many as I would think that would be appropriate for what Im trying to talk about, Rapinoe said. A lot of the conversation has been about the medium of protest and if there is offense to that and me having to defend myself against claims of being anti-American or anti-police or anti-military. So while there has been a lot [of conversation], I also think its something that a lot of people dont want to talk about and will try to deflect in any way to not talk about it.She told Schaap she wasnt sure how effective her protest was if it meant 20 percent of people instantly tuned out because they were offended by the means of delivery. In that arrangement, the argument becomes one about the anthem. About the symbol, not what it represents.Racial injustice, the sort of either explicit or unintended bias toward black people in this country, Rapinoe said of what she wished was the focus of public debate about the protests. Police brutality against people of color, communities of color. The sort of massive revamp that we need in our police system, not only for the better treatment of people of color but also for police officers as well. I think that a lot of these cops have been put in very difficult situations and tasked with very difficult jobs with very little training and very little help. Thats not an excuse, by any means, for any of the brutality or any of the intimidation, killings or violence that has happened on their watch. But I think its a very complex issue that needs to be looked at holistically. Its not just one person doing something wrong or one side doing something wrong. That is a long quote, which is part of the problem. Kneeling during the anthem is an excellent way to get people to pay attention. But the people who pay attention exist in a modern world of 140-character takes, 30-second television debates and the short attention spans they serve. To expect people, in the face of an image as powerful as kneeling during the anthem, to engage in calm, nuanced debate -- each side willing to hear the other -- is optimistic bordering on naive. But its equally difficult to have that debate if no one is paying attention in the first place. This is my lane, Rapinoe said. And I feel like for me personally, this is, I think, the best way I can do it. Obviously to be on this team, to be able to represent my country and have the platform that I do, Im incredibly grateful for it.Which brings us back to what happens Thursday night in Columbus. No womens team in this country, perhaps the world, has the profile or the platform afforded the U.S. womens soccer team. Players, including Rapinoe, have used that platform often in recent years, making the case for equal turf at the World Cup, equal pay within the national program and a variety of other social issues. They use their voices individually and collectively. But is there ever a line that can be crossed? Rapinoe said she spoke with her teammates Tuesday night to explain her motivations and answer any questions. She said she offered no apology for adding her voice to the issue. She offered no hint that others were ready to join her. What I always think about is the team ahead of the individual agenda, Ellis said. [That] is probably where Im at, in terms of theres a myriad of things that our players are concerned about. But I also think when you bring it to the team, you bring it to everybody and people that maybe dont even want to be embroiled in that discussion. For all the talk about conversations, debates and chats, it will come down to what one person decides in the hours before a game about how best to represent what she believes in.A list that includes both the national team and social equality. It seems like Im thinking 400 hours a day, thats kind of how it feels, Rapinoe said. I will continue to talk to the people in my life that I trust, and take all sides into account. Ultimately, it will be up to me and what I feel convicted about, whats in my bones and what I feel like is right. Cheap MLB Jerseys Authentic. MINNEAPOLIS -- Brian Doziers milestone home run led to his first career curtain call and a satisfying win for the Minnesota Twins.Dozier hit his 25th homer of the season and the 100th of his career, leading Tyler Duffey and the Twins over the Kansas City Royals 5-3 Saturday night and ending a four-game losing streak. After slumping badly to start the season, Dozier has been one of the top hitters in the majors for almost two months. Hes hit 17 homers since June 25, most in the majors over that span, and hes even baffled a Hall of Fame hitter with his surge.Im not sure what it feels like to be in the groove that hes in, said Twins manager Paul Molitor, who got 3,319 hits in big league career.I know back there in May he talked about having a couple days where he worked on some things, some things started to click, and its been an extended period now where hes been one of the better offensive players in the league, he said.Dozier doubled to lead off the first inning and scored on the first of Robbie Grossmans three hits. In the sixth inning he followed Eddie Rosarios two-run shot with a towering drive deep into the second deck in left.Teammate Eduardo Escobar pushed Dozier out of the dugout to acknowledge the crowd after he circled the bases.Just dont ask him to explain his turnaround. If I had a clear-cut answer Id tell you, Dozier said. You make adjustments, you start seeing the ball, you stay behind the ball . everything feels very comfortable. For the second time this season, the Twins homered three times off Royals starter Dillon Gee (4-6), who gave up five earned runs on 11 hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings. The first five innings ... we were battling pretty good and the curveball was good, Gee said. We were able to battle our way through five, and in the sixth it just fell apart.Duffey (8-8) won for the third time in three starts this month. He allowed two runs on six hits in seven innnings, striking out six.dddddddddddd.His outing was especially timely given the recent troubles of Minnesotas starting staff. In the previous three games, Twins starters lasted a combined 10 innings. The more that the short outings get compounded, the more that it taxes your team collectively, Molitor said. You need a little relief. Long starts are right up there with off days.Ryan Pressly pitched a scoreless eighth and Brandon Kintzler allowed an unearned run in the ninth but held on for his 11th save in 12 chances.Cheslor Cuthbert hit his 10th home run of the season in the third inning to tie it at 1. But Grossman hit a leadoff home run in the fifth to put the Twins on top for good.CUTHBERT CRUSHINGCuthbert took over third base for the injured Mike Moustakas in late May, and the rookie has been on a tear since the All-Star break. After going 1 for 4 on Saturday hes hitting .336 since July 15. He also had four straight multihit games earlier this week and hasnt gone hitless in consecutive games since June 15-16.BULLPEN SHUFFLEThe Twins switched lefties in their bullpen on Saturday, calling up Ryan ORourke from Triple-A Rochester and designating Andrew Albers for assignment. ORourke had a 4.91 ERA in eight appearances with the Twins earlier this season. Albers made one appearance for the Twins this season, giving up five runs in six innings of relief in the second game of a doubleheader against Houston on Thursday.UP NEXTLHP Hector Santiago will try to earn his first victory for the Twins on Sunday. Santiago (10-6), acquired from the Angels in a four-player trade on Aug. 1, has allowed eight earned runs in 10 1/3 innings in his first two starts for Minnesota, both losses. Alone at the edge of the crease, he banged home the rebound of Sami Vatanens shot from the point for his eighth goal in 11 games. It could have been more, but Anaheim hit the post twice after taking the lead.Bernier was a bit lucky midway into the third when he deflected a shot and the puck caromed off the post behind him, but he dived and covered it in the crease before a Boston player could push it into the net. They came at us. It shows a lot of character of this team to bounce back from 2-0, Bernier said. We get that timeout and to go out and score a goal is big.Bernier stopped Torey Krugs shot from the left circle with 17 seconds to play.Boston had jumped ahead 2-0 on goals by Chara and Czarnik midway into the opening period.Chara fired a slap shot from the point that went past Berniers glove. On the ensuing shift, Czarnik one-timed Ryan Spooners pass from the bottom of the left faceoff circle and the puck slipped inside the left post.Carlyle then called the timeout and his team responded a few minutes later.Cogliano sliced it to 2-1 at 12:44 after the rebound of his wrist shot caromed into the net off Krejci. After the timeout, they came hard and it was a tough break, Krejci said. It was me that put it in.The Ducks tied it when Bieksa stepped out of the penalty box, collected a pass from Getzlaf and skated in on a clean breakaway before slipping a wrister by Khudobin.Game notes The Bruins recalled LW Anton Blidh from AHLs Providence and sent down F Danton Heinan. ... Sulaiman, 44, was chosen unanimously Tuesday in a vote by the leadership, the World Boxing Council said. Sulaiman becomes the sixth president of the organization. A roundup of the past weeks notable boxing results from around the world:Saturday at Rosarito, MexicoAntonio Margarito W10 Ramon Inocente Alvarez Junior middleweights Scores:?97-92 (twice) Margarito, 95-94 Alvarez Records:?Margarito (40-8, 27 KOs); Alvarez (23-5-2, 15 KOs)?Rafaels remarks: After Margarito, a former welterweight titleholder, had his surgically repaired right eye smashed up in a 10th-round knockout loss to Miguel Cotto in their rancor-filled rematch in December 2011, Margarito retired. This being boxing, naturally, he made a comeback in March. He got knocked down, looked extremely rusty and even more painfully slow than he was in his prime and struggled to a decision win against Jorge Paez Jr.In the second fight of his ill-advised comeback (his eye still looks deformed), Margarito, 38, of Mexico, took on countryman Alvarez, 30, the older brother of lineal middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, who was ringside (as was Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.). Margarito again looked rusty in a hard-fought split decision win, one in which he did deserve. He got off to a very slow start but began to pick up the pace with his trademark pressure as the fight went on. Alvarez landed a lot of shots but Margarito -- still an outcast to many for his failed attempt to fight Shane Mosley with loaded hands wraps in 2009 -- brushed them off and continued to stalk Alvarez. Both fighters emerged with welts and bruises on their faces but Margarito claimed the decision as Alvarez saw his 10-fight unbeaten streak come to an end. After the fight, Margarito, to nobodys surprise, called out for a fight with Canelo, a bout that thankfully is extremely unlikely to happen and not just because Canelo is scheduled to face junior middleweight titlist Liam Smith on Sept. 17.?In the co-feature, junior welterweight prospect Pedro Campa (22-0, 17 KOs), 24, of Mexico, stopped David Bency (10-6-1, 4 KOs), 28, of Nicaragua, 55 seconds into the seventh round of their scheduled 10-round fight.Saturday at Pensacola, FloridaRoy Jones Jr. W10 Rockin Rodney Moore Cruiserweights Scores:?100-90 (three times) Records:?Jones (64-9, 46 KOs); Moore (17-12-2, 7 KOs)Rafaels remarks: Perhaps this is finally the end of the line for the 47-year-old Jones, a pro for 27 years but who has overstayed his time in the ring by around a decade since he was the untouchable pound-for-pound king and a four-division world titleholder (from middleweight to heavyweight).A lock first-ballot Hall of Fame selection, Jones, who ruled boxing from 1993 to 2004, returned home to his beloved Pensacola and headlined a card promoted by his company Square Ring. Jones said it might be his final fight and around 5,000 turned out to watch the shell of a once great fighter showboat his way to a shutout decision against an abysmal opponent in Moore, 40, of Houston, who was utterly ineffective as he lost his 10th fight in a row. He did not box between 2005 and 2012 and has not won a fight since 2002.Jones, meanwhile, won his secoond fight in a row since suffering a devastating fourth-round knockout to Enzo Maccarinelli in Moscow in December.dddddddddddd He had an easy time with Moore in what amounted to a sparring match, despite tearing his right biceps in the fifth round and fighting essentially one-handed for the second half of the fight. Jones suffered the kind of injury that could keep him out of the ring for an extended period, so perhaps he will just hang up the gloves, content with the memory of a hometown victory in front of his adoring fans. That would be a nice way to finally go out.Friday at Verona, New YorkMiguel Flores W10 Ryan Kielczweski Junior lightweights Scores:?97-93, 96-94 (twice) Records:?Flores (21-0, 9 KOs); Kielczweski (25-2, 7 KOs)Watch highlightsRafaels remarks: Flores, a 24-year-old Mexico native fighting out of Houston, took on the best opponent of his career so far and passed the test in a competitive and entertaining match with Kielczweski, 27, of Quincy, Massachusetts, in the season finale of the summer run of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN.Flores, aiming to make a name for himself in the deep featherweight division, got off to a strong start and his punches were a little crisper throughout the fight. He also moved well and worked well on the inside against the hard-charging Kielczweski, who also fought well but just not quite as well as his opponent. According to CompuBox punch statistics, Kielczweski had the edge but the judges got it right. Stats do not always tell the whole story. Flores landed 260 of 769 punches (34 percent) and Kielczweski connected with 295 of 770 blows (38 percent). Kielczweski finished the fight well, hurting Flores with a body shot in the final round.Yordenis Ugas W10 Jamal James Welterweights Scores:?99-91, 98-92, 96-94 Records:?Ugas (16-3, 7 KOs); James (20-1, 9 KOs)Rafaels remarks: The Las Vegas-based Ugas, 30, who won a 2008 Olympic bronze medal for Cuba before defecting, came into the fight having lost two decisions in a row to then-unbeaten opponents (Amir Imam and Emmanuel Robles) and also having not fought since the loss to Imam in May 2014. Ugas was scheduled to fight Bryant Perrella (14-0, 13 KOs), 27, of Fort Myers, Florida, but he dropped out of the fight a few days beforehand when he was not cleared because of a lingering left thumb injury. So James, 28, of Minneapolis, took the fight on short notice but was outclassed despite turning in a good effort in the clear defeat. It was a technical fight with little action or entertainment value but the vastly experienced Ugas, the 5-foot-10, five-time Cuban national amateur champion, did his thing -- box, box, box -- as he worked the body and basically toyed with the taller James, who is 6-foot-2. According to CompuBox punch statistics, Ugas connected with 234 of 615 shots (38 percent) while James landed 141 of 606 (23 percent). ARLINGTON, Texas -- Michael Fulmer watched Matt Boyd throw seven scoreless innings against Texas a night earlier. The Detroit rookie did his fellow starter two innings better, putting himself in the company of 2011 AL Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander.Fulmer pitched a four-hitter in the Tigers second straight shutout of the Rangers, and Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez homered among three hits apiece in a 7-0 victory Sunday. The 23-year-old right-hander became the first Tigers rookie to throw a shutout since Verlander 10 years ago. He retired 16 of the last 17 hitters he faced as Detroit kept the AL West-leading Rangers scoreless over the final 21 innings of the three-game series. The gem from Fulmer (10-3), whose longest previous outing was eight innings in a no-decision against Kansas City, came a day after the lefty Boyd, not far removed from rookie status himself, led a 2-0 victory against Texas ace left-hander Cole Hamels. What I learned was that they were an aggressive team against him, Fulmer, the AL rookie leader in wins, said after striking out nine -- two off his career best -- with no walks. I just looked to make quality pitches on 0-0 counts and early in the count and try to get grounders and weak pop-ups.Ian Kinsler added a solo shot against A.J. Miguel Cabrera hit his team-leading 27th homer in the ninth.Fulmers streak of 13 straight retired ended with Nomar Mazaras single leading off the ninth. But Fulmer finished by getting the top of the Texas order -- Shin-Soo Choo, Ian Desmond and Carlos Beltran -- on his way to a career-high 112 pitches. All four Texas hits were singles. All I know is I feel good right now, said Fulmer, a 2011 first-round pick of the New York Mets who started the season at Triple-A Toledo. I could feel this good at 200 innings. Who knows? All I can do is control the present and keep pitching every fifth day.The best chance for Texas came in the fourth, when Desmond and Adrian Beltre singled around a flyout to the warning track in right by Beltran. Fulmer struck out Rougned Odor to end the threat. What was noticeable was the young man on the mound, Texas manager Jeff Banister said. He was able to do pretty much what he wanted to do.Victor Martinez started the scoring with a two-run shot in the fourth, and J.D. Martinez hit his 100th career homer to knock out Griffin and give the Tigers a 6-0 lead in the seventh.Griffin allowed 11 hits and six runs with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, his second-longest outing of the season.
